Progress in Number

More than 4000 hatchlings – the result of nest patrol activity – of various ages have been released into the wild since 2013 to increase the wild population in Aceh Tamiang.

Hatchlings Released

More than 50 individuals of adult male and female turtles have been rescued from illegal captivity and accidentally caught, then released back into habitat in the District of Aceh Tamiang and the District of Langkat. The adult is vital for the survival and regeneration of the species in wild!

Rescue

Painted Terrapin Information Center (PTIC) has become a center for students and people to increase their knowledge and appreciation of critically endangered Painted Terrapin and mangroves. Thousands of people have visited the center since its inauguration in 2017. Hundreds of fishermen have been reached by our socialization program!

Increasing Public Knowledge

The Foundation and partner are developing educational tourism in the Painted Terrapin habitat to develop an alternative sustainable economy for local people. Hundreds of local people, mostly students, have visited and learned since 2021!

Developing Educational Tourism

We and our partners have planted more than 30,000 seedlings of mangroves and Casuarina sp. in Painted Terrapin’s habitat to prevent beach and riverside abrasion, and keep fisheries productivity!
